[Back]AFROSARDONIC-TONGUE
Listen to Afrosardonic-TogueAmani Williams, a recent MFA graduate from the School of Visual Arts, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, led a discussion about her experience as a Black artist and how her work is not intentionally political but rather about her experience as a Black girl, which inherently becomes political through society’s treatment of race. Amani’s work is successful in engaging the viewer, reflecting on privilege and the systems that continuously oppress Black girls and women. Her work is paired with lengthy titles that reflect Amani’s use of writing to process her emotions, something she struggles with. Listen to the recording to learn more about Amani’s work and to dive deeper into her thought process.
