OBJECTIVE

CREATING SPACE FOR OPEN DIALOGUE

Ursula K. Le Guin,
Commencement Address, 1989
The mother tongue is language not as mere communication but as relation, relationship. It connects. It goes two ways, many ways, an exchange, a network. Its power is not in dividing but in binding, not in distancing but in uniting.

Mother-Tongue is a series of table talks where artists discuss their practice, what inspires them, and why they create art. It is an open discussion with the audience. The artist is not above; everyone sits at the same level to discuss their own thoughts and to share ideas they feel are relevant to today’s world. Mother-Tongue wants to emphasize the importance of art in today’s politics and why everyone should have a critical voice in the art world, no matter what their background, education, or interests are.
